To be grateful for the air we breathe,
the air that leaves,
the crooked streets,
and the summer breeze,
To be free of fear,
unchained by structure,
unassailed by systemic pressure,
ignorant of the burdens faced,
by humans of a different race,
Even though I will never know,
the quality of pain you’ve been forced to hold,
the loss of life,
the loss of light,
wrenches the heart on this starry night.
Another light goes out.
