Roosevelt Park ABQ 6.12.2020

Desperation left unspoken,
the day’s last cigarette finally smoked and,
the dream again fades,
tomorrow another mirrored day,

a lust for life long forgotten,
stillness a shore rarely plodded,
echoes of potential squandered,
a gradual deviation from what mattered,

tired eyes,
gaunted cheeks,
aching bones,
the pain bored deep,

heart of gold lost in static,
the inevitability more than tragic,
my love for you muted and veiled,
my sense of duty again assailed,

I wish the best and brightest for you,
may all your suffering finally be through,
even if it happens to be,
with your last breath wading into the timeless sea.
