Roosevelt Park ABQ 6.12.2020

Desperation left unspoken,
the day’s last cigarette finally smoked and,
the dream again fades,
tomorrow another mirrored day,

a lust for life long forgotten,
stillness a shore rarely plodded,
echoes of potential squandered,
a gradual deviation from what mattered,

tired eyes,
gaunted cheeks,
aching bones,
the pain bored deep,

heart of gold lost in static,
the inevitability more than tragic,
my love for you muted and veiled,
my sense of duty again assailed,

I wish the best and brightest for you,
may all your suffering finally be through,
even if it happens to be,
with your last breath wading into the timeless sea.

Beauty of the Whole – 6.7.2020

Engrossed in distraction,
I miss the simple beauty,
hidden in abstraction,
a careless glare,
providing a sacred romance,

Feathers amongst the rubble,
the stillness beneath the trouble,
a still mind sees,
the illumined dance of leaves,

a heart unencumbered,
carries the burden of all, beloved,
slow down to see,
what beauty really means.
Peace
Peace
Peace

A Light Goes Out 5.29.20

To be grateful for the air we breathe,
the air that leaves,
the crooked streets,
and the summer breeze,

To be free of fear,
unchained by structure,
unassailed by systemic pressure,
ignorant of the burdens faced,
by humans of a different race,

Even though I will never know,
the quality of pain you’ve been forced to hold,
the loss of life,
the loss of light,
wrenches the heart on this starry night.

Another light goes out.

Existential Confusion – 4.24.2020

“Gilded Standards block the ease of progress,
Vetted methods can no longer solve this,
riddles of flesh and experience,
somewhere inside the middle way lies,
an indomitable sword born of light
cuts through the excess to reveal,
a state of being that need not be healed”
